- The plates move, floating on the soft rock, beneath the lithosphere.
- They are moved by the currents created in the magma of the mantle which then partly sticks to the crust and moves the plate
- These currents being created by gravity and the Earth's magnetic field, as part of this magma is molten iron
- Most earthquakes, volcanoes and mountain forming takes place at plate boundaries.
