# National Parks

National Parks are:

- Areas of beautiful countryside that are being preserved for the future.
- Set up by an act of parliament in 1949.
- There are 10 National Parks in England and Wales.
- The main purposes of National Parks are to preserve the countryside, improve the local economy, protect wildlife and historic buildings and provide recreation.
